We're excited to introduce you to three new 2018 Board Members who recently joined the Circle family! We asked them three questions that we thought would help you get to know them a bit. Say hello the next time you see them at Circle!

RYAN SLUSARZYK

Director of Sales and Marketing, Grand Rapids Drive

Q: What are you most looking forward to as a Board Member?
A: I am looking forward most to working closely with each of the shows that Circle produces each season, and ultimately making an overall impact to the artistic community of West Michigan!

Q: What is a favorite Circle Theatre memory of yours?
A: My favorite memory has to be one of the most recent experiences,  when I sat in on the callback auditions for Into the Woods. I was able to listen and watch all of the talented actors perform and it was truly captivating.

Q: What do you like to do for fun?
A: For fun, I volunteer and give back to the community for which I live, work and play in.  I've been blessed in so many ways, that I have always felt the need and responsibility to give back to those in need.  I also enjoy spending time with family, traveling, enjoying new restaurants, and playing and watching sports.

STATHI AFENDOULIS

Owner, Afendoulis Cleaners and Tuxedos
Founder and Executive Director, Lainie's Angels

Q: What are you most looking forward to as a Board Member?
A: I am excited to share my years of experience with young people, and to bring advancement and education of theater to our community here in Grand Rapids.

Q: What is a favorite Circle Theatre memory of yours?
A: My favorite memories of the Circle are the summer shows I performed in from 1974 until 1980.  Great experiences and people, whose influence and friendship helped me to decide to move to New York and pursue a life in the theater.  My hope is to bring the same vitality and enthusiasm I experienced then, back to my membership on the Board.

Q: What do you like to do for fun?
A: Of course, besides performing for fun, I love to read, travel, play golf, garden and enjoy this wonderful life God has given me.

SARAH SUYDAM

Account Assistant, Burch Partners

Q: What are you most looking forward to as a Board Member?
A: It's an honor to be able to contribute to the Circle Theatre team and I'm looking forward to seeing the performing arts from a different perspective while bringing some new and fresh ideas to the table. And of course, making sure everyone I know knows all about Circle!

Q: What is a favorite Circle Theatre memory of yours?
A: Performing in the Circle Summer Concert Series show "Leather and Lace: Women of Rock" back in 2015 was a serious blast and was such a defining memory of my early years in Grand Rapids. The cast, band and production staff of that concert were all stellar and I'll always hold that time close to me. I also loved being asked to film the wedding proposal of Kyle Cain and his now wife Amy during the curtain call for the production of Company... they were in the show together. It was super exciting being one of the only people in the room who knew what was coming and that I got to capture it for them to remember.

Q: What do you like to do for fun?

A: Singing, whether that's on a stage somewhere or in the car... doing hot yoga, going to concerts with my boyfriend Brian (who has infuriatingly good taste in music), and listening to too many true crime podcasts.
