Job Summary

Interns assist Circle Theatre’s staff in all areas of theatre production, including but not limited to assisting Scenic Designer, Properties, Costumes, Lighting, and Technical Director in all technical areas, and maintaining the facility in a safe and clean manner as directed.

Responsibilities and Duties

. Build, install, help paint, and strike sets to TD and Set Designer’s instructions.

  • Clean, organize and maintain facility as directed.
  • Running errands as needed. Requires driving Theatre’s van.
  • Additional duties may be assigned based on need and/or intern interest.

Qualifications and Skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Interest in and working knowledge of performing arts, specifically theatre.
  • Experience with standard scene shop tools
  • Dependability
  • Understanding of good customer service
  • Effective and appropriate verbal communication
  • Initiative
  • Troubleshooting/ability to “think on your feet”

Master Electrician

Community Circle Theatre - Grand Rapids, MI

Job Summary

Main responsibilities are hanging, focusing, and rigging all electrical units for the productions, including, but not limited to: Scenic Lighting, Practical Lighting, Specialty Lighting; and custom hanging points. May be required to assist TD in planning and scheduling construction and load-in of scenic elements. May attend some production meetings as required by the TD. Reports to TD and Production Designers. This position will also include occasionally being on-call for certain performances as well as arranging pick-up and return of lighting rentals and equipment.

  • The ME will also maintain and repair lighting stock as necessary.
  • Occasionally assists Technical Director and Master Carpenter in layout and construction of scenic elements. Participates in strike of scenic elements after completion of production.
  • Supervise interns during construction period and during load-in week, as well as during Strike.

Qualifications and Skills

Preferable:

  • Holds or studying a B.A., B.F.A. or F.A. in technical theatre
  • Past experience as a theatrical electrician and some scene shop work.

Also:

  • Proficency in the use and repair of theatrical lighting equipment
  • Proficiency in wood construction
  • Knowledge of rigging systems
  • Ability to supervise crews
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Valid US drivers license

Master Carpenter

Job Summary

Supervises interns in construction of scenic elements and is main supervisor during the load-in period. Assists technical director in planning and scheduling construction and load-in of scenic elements. May attend some production meetings as required by the TD. Reports to TD and Production Designers. Will assist TD and Master Electrician in all technical areas for assigned productions. This position will also include occasionally being on-call for certain performances.
