TAKE WORKSHOP

DESCRIPTION:

This workshop aims to present the advantages of a consistent yoga regimen by delving into yoga as a philosophy, exploring its historical and cultural facets. Participants will gain insight into the correlation between breath control and physical practice, along with how actors can utilize the somatic and mindfulness elements of yoga to enhance their stage performances. During this three-hour workshop, we will delve into mindfulness, toning/vocalization, visualization, and breath regulation to gain a deeper understanding. Participants will also have the opportunity to explore the distinctions between dynamic and restorative physical practices. As well as learn the difference between yoga forms and styles.
To fully participate, attendees should bring: A notebook, yoga mat, strap, light blanket, ample water and light snacks.
 
INSTRUCTOR BIO:
 
Laura Armenta is a Mexican-born choreographer, performer, educator, artistic entrepreneur, and wellness & lifestyle consultant. Her professional journey includes roles as a faculty member at institutions such as Grand Valley State University, Grand Rapids Ballet, Civic Theater, Hope College, Calvin University and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. Beyond her teaching responsibilities, she showcases her talent through performances, workshops, and retreats on both local and international platforms. In the realm of somatic movement, performing and holistic arts, Ms. Armenta holds a diverse skill set as a Yoga teacher with multiple certifications and a devoted personal practice since 1991. She is also a Guided Meditation coach, Nuad Boran (Thai-Yoga therapy) practitioner, Contemporary choreographer and performer, and possesses a background in Dance Anthropology. Complementing her expertise, she has a profound passion for Martial Arts, having honed her skills in Capoeira, Aikido, Muay Thai, Boxing, and Krav Maga disciplines. Since 1998, Laura Armenta has led the Armentality Movement Arts Center as the founder and creative director, driving innovative initiatives in movement arts.
