It is Circle Theatre’s mission to educate our community through fostering opportunities for life-long appreciation for the theatre arts. We strive to provide students of varying ages with opportunities for scholarship as well as activities to engage them beyond our stage. Opportunities include scholarships, contests, Magic Circle productions, workshops, and classes

CEDRIC WARD AND JAMES MITCHELL SCHOLARSHIPS

Circle Theatre will be providing two scholarships to individuals who, by their own contribution to Circle Theatre, demonstrated ability, talent, and dedication to the theatre arts and are enrolled in an accredited college or training program.

The Cedric Ward Scholarship is valued at: $1000
The James Mitchell Scholarship is valued at: $500

Cedric Ward: made his theatrical debut in Circle Theatre’s 1953 production of Little Foxes. In 1966 he was instrumental in founding the first children’s theatre company at Circle and directed and wrote the first production Hansel & Gretel. He was an influential director, performer and volunteer for over 40 years. He was honored by the Giant Awards and the Arts Council of Greater Grand Rapids for his leadership. Since 2002, we have been awarding this scholarship which prioritizes applicants who are people of color.

James Mitchell: dedicated over 25 years of service to the Theatre community as a performer, technician, and production manager. He held various leadership positions with numerous theatre arts organizations within the Grand Rapids community and a distinguished volunteer award is held in his name.
