Circle Theatre is excited to announce a new series on our blog called “Circle Spotlight”. Each week we will highlight different members of our Circle family. This week we are excited to introduce Mary Kate Murnen!
Mary Kate joined Circle Theatre in 2014 with her first production being Carrie The Musical. That summer is one of her favorites as she was completely blown away by how wonderful and talented the community is. Over the years she has built many great friendships and relationships and is forever grateful for the opportunity to create many more theatre experiences with friends.
Mary Kate’s next big role will be Louise Seger in Circle Theatre’s production of Always…Patsy Cline. I asked Mary Kate what pushed her into auditioning for this role. She said that she was really excited to see that shows were becoming a possibility again and didn’t want to miss out.
Louise is loud, passionate, and a bit silly. She always knows what she wants and will do whatever it takes to make it happen herself! Mary Kate mentioned that she is shy at times and hopes that by playing Louise she will be able to let loose a little bit and come out of her shell. Mary Kate admires the person that Louise Seger is and understands exactly why Patsy Cline chose to sit down and have a beer with her.
Preparing for shows is a much more in-depth process than most people think. Outside of rehearsals, memorizing lines, and understanding their characters, our Circle Theatre actors have to do their own part before every show to get in the right mindset. I asked Mary Kate how she likes to prepare before a show. Her response was that she drinks approximately two gallons of water before every show and hopes that she makes it to intermission!
I had a great time talking to Mary Kate. I learned that she has been playing guitar since she was 16 and was even on TMZ once! Seems like star quality to me.
